Making a List of Tech Resources

I’m often surprised to learn about Mobile, Alabama companies that hire software developers. I doubt I’m alone in not being familiar with our area’s resources and employers. So I think a list would help in case anyone else is curious. I’ve started this task once before. I bought a domain and made a site. Documented the meetups and user group meetings I attended. I lost interest on the site once I learned about the maker movement. My focus for the next several years was on helping develop Mobile Makerspace, http://makerspacemobile.org, as well as all the maker activities. I recently stepped back from Mobile Makerspace and the tech list is something that came up again.

Mobile Alabama Tech List

Presenting round 2 of Mobile, Alabama Tech List My intent is to develop and maintain a resource for tech workers to keep up with the Mobile, Alabama tech community. I believe there are tech workers in our area that would benefit from a community. I expect this project to help foster that community.

Some short-term goals are to document the local user groups and meetups. It would start as a link dump.

I’d like a list of employers that hire tech workers. It could be IT staff or developers. This could be a useful resource when looking for a job. The list might note what technologies they use, how many developers or IT staff do they have.

Mid term goal would be to have a way for the community to help add to this list. Could be as simple as a contact form.

Long term goal would be to automate maintenance. Scrape the user group info. Incorporate job board searches to add data about the employers. Incorporate news about the local tech community.
