Ruby on Rails Photo Albums
Update: posted source to GitHub
I created a Ruby on Rails photo sharing application following the scratch your own itch mantra. After the birth of our first child I found myself posting, emailing, and backing up photos on several sites. It was a pain to keep up with all of the different social networks. The purpose of the web application is to share photos with family and close friends. Creating my application meant I could focus on the group’s needs.
Picsta is a Responsive web application. Add pictures directly from your smart phone. You start by creating albums and uploading photos. Add your family and friends using a simple email form. Once accepted, your invited users can view albums and pictures. The images are laid out in a modern block style. Hi-resolution originals are available directly from the site in sizes suitable for printing. Periodic email notifications let members know when new photos are added.
The site has been a hit with our families. We upload photos regularly. It’s reassuring to know that everyone is able to see the pictures without being on a public social network.
