SALUG – South Alabama Linux Users Group

The South Alabama Linux Users Group meets on the second Saturday of the month at Assurance Technology. SALUG started over 16 years ago. I was a founding member, but hadn’t attended a meeting in well over a decade. I first learned about the group from a flyer posted at Univ. of South Alabama’s computer lab. I had recently picked up a Linux book with a CDROM of Slackware 3 so meeting with a group of other local users was exciting. It’s hard for me to believe I’ve been using Linux for that long.

I had to check the wayback machine for some nostalgic web programming.

The April SALUG workshop on Blender was postponed. The meeting involved chatting about projects, work experience, and general good geeky topics. That was great for me since I got to learn more about the members. Unfortunately I didn’t make a copy of the workshop schedule. The August workshop will involve embedded Linux which is right up my alley.

Rick Green told me about a Mobile area hackerspace effort he started. A hackerspace is a where people meet to learn, teach, and work on projects. They have a Google+ community called Mobile Makers. The members share personal builds and interesting links to the group.
